This collection titled ‘initiation’ explores the collective rites of passage among age groups, a practice found in many traditional communities across Africa. In this case, the scarification among the Pokot tribe in Kenya during the Ngetungoh ceremony, where the girls undergo a process of beautification (scarring of the belly) before beginning the initiation rite to womanhood under the guide of their initiate mothers.
